New World Order: Davos Forum Calls for Censorship

The Center for Family and Human Rights (C-Fam) closely followed the lectures and debates of this meeting of world leaders. One of the points which sharply emerged was the reaffirmation of commitment to “fight” against what is termed “disinformation” or “misinformation.” But it is known that behind these words hides a desire to eliminate opposition.

In response to some skepticism in public opinion regarding the globalist agenda, the WEF had placed the 2024 session under the banner of “rebuilding trust.” Throughout the event, many participants mentioned that “disinformation” erodes trust in international institutions and that world leaders have an obligation to combat it.

This concern must be translated: this fight categorizes as “disinformation” not only what could be strictly designated as such--information contrary to reality--but also truths or well-founded opinions which criticize or refuse abortion, gender ideology, euthanasia, or even same-sex marriage.

A Short Anthology

Tirana Hassan, Executive Director of Human Rights Watch, established a link between the “misinformation climate” of today and authoritarianism. She thus stated that “warning signs [of authoritarianism] appear... with concepts such as protecting family values or safeguarding our traditions” and that the public should pay particular attention to them.

“They are often self-serving, manipulative, and almost always harm people and restrict human rights,” she added. She continued by saying that “Another example is where women’s rights come under attack...governments telling women...whether they can be pregnant or not.”

The WEF Global Risks Report 2024 cites misinformation and disinformation as the greatest risks in the short term. The WEF launched an initiative titled “Misinformation and COVID-19--Strategic Intelligence,” in order to promote a dominant narrative about the pandemic.

Meredith Kopit Levien, CEO of the New York Times, stated that “Google has made real progress on how things are indexed,” which C-Fam points out means that it has become “effective at generating and promoting the ‘right kind’ of content [...] while ‘undesirable information’ is pushed down.”

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, stated that “for the global business community, the top concern for the next two years is not conflict or climate. It is disinformation and misinformation.” She added that “the values we cherish offline should also be protected online.” These values include access to abortion and the legalization of same-sex marriage, priorities of the European Union (EU).

Vera Jourová, Vice President of the European Commission for Values and Transparency, stated that the EU is “focusing on improving the system so people will get the right facts.” She stated that Europe “has all the big tech under the commitment... [to push against] disinformation.”

Leyen and Jourová both referenced EU law, which establishes rules for regulating online platforms and services. This law includes a section on “mitigation of risks, such as manipulation and disinformation.” Starting on February 17, the law should be binding for member States, which must put into place Digitial Services Coordinators.
