Mother Angelica, foundress of the Catholic TV channel Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) in the United States, passed away on March 27, 2016, on the feast of Easter, at the age of 92.

On March 29, Osservatore Romano paid tribute to the nun, considering her as “a pioneer of Catholic information in the United States.” In 2009, Mother Angelica, a member of the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration of Our Lady of the Angels, received the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice medal from the hands of Benedict XVI in reward for her services to the Church and the papacy. According to Radio Vatican on March 28, the nun’s goal was to teach “the truth as it is defined by the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church.”

Created 35 years ago, EWTN has become one of the most important Catholic television networks in the world, broadcasting its programs 24 hours a day in 144 countries on cable, satellite and internet, in English, German and Spanish.
