Ghana Consecrated Again to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

The renewal of the consecration of Ghana to the Sacred Heart of Jesus was celebrated on March 4, 2017.
Around 2,000 persons attended the renewal of the consecration of Ghana to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The ceremony was celebrated on March 4, 2017 by Cardinal Giusepps Bertello, special envoy of Pope Francis and President of the Governorate of Vatican City, in the presence of many public authorities.
According to the Ghanaian daily newspaper Catholic Standard (March 7, 2017), this ceremony is part of the “spiritual contribution of the Church” to two other landmark celebrations in the country: the 60th anniversary of Ghana’s independence and the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Apostolic Nunciature, on March 4 and 5, 2017, respectively.
According to a Ghanaian professor of theology quoted by the news agency I.Media on March 8, the country is at the “center of a awakening that puts West Africa at the heart of worldwide Christianity.” Thus, in Ghana “there are many who go to church on Sunday or attend prayer vigils,” Reuters reports, emphasizing also that it is “not rare to see people studying the Bible or employees keeping open Bibles on their desks.”
